As the e-commerce world continues to grow rapidly, consumer habits are also undergoing significant changes. The latest e-commerce report released for the previous year highlights the remarkable rise of "sustainable commerce" and the second-hand market. The figures show that consumers are no longer interested only in new products; they are also showing strong demand for second-hand products that are part of the sustainable economy.

So, what did users prefer most in the sustainable e-commerce market, which has reached a massive volume of 21.8 billion Turkish lira? Here are the key highlights from the report!

A Significant Increase in Transaction Volumes

Consumers' growing trust in online shopping and the increasing number of options have directly impacted transaction volumes. According to the report, the number of sustainable e-commerce transactions increased significantly from 17.5 million to 23.6 million.

Top Category by Units Sold: Apparel

The fashion industry leads sustainable e-commerce in terms of units sold. Second-hand clothing has become a consumer favorite, not only because it is environmentally friendly but also because it offers excellent value for money.

According to the report, the best-selling second-hand product groups by units sold were ranked as follows:

  • Shirts and Tops: 751,294 units sold, taking first place.

  • Dresses and Evening Wear: 681,697 units sold, ranking second.

  • Trousers: 564,906 units sold.

  • Jackets and Coats: 515,771 units sold.

  • Shoes: 443,242 units sold.

Revenue Leader: Mobile Phones

When it comes to total generated value (revenue), the technology sector remains the undisputed leader. Even excluding refurbished products, second-hand mobile phones sold online generated a market volume worth 594.17 million Turkish lira.

Other Categories Following Technology

This massive volume generated by mobile phone sales accounts for approximately 6% of the sustainable e-commerce market. The smartphone category is followed by other high-value fashion products:

  • Jackets and Coats: 524.22 million TL

  • Dresses and Evening Wear: 460.68 million TL

  • Bags: 424.71 million TL

  • Shoes: 390.34 million TL

Interesting Insight: Among smartphone sales, the most traded devices were 2019 models with 64 GB of storage, accounting for 14.9% of all transactions. The fact that just three different models represented 40% of the total mobile phone sales volume demonstrates that consumer demand is concentrated on specific brands and value-for-money products.

The report’s findings are clear: online shopping volume continues to grow exponentially every year, and consumers are quickly adapting to new trends. Positioning your brand successfully in this massive market requires more than just product quality—it demands visibility, the right infrastructure, and a strategic e-commerce approach.
