The Competition Authority has decided that BKM Express, which was launched as a national digital wallet on June 21, 2012, must terminate its service within 60 days after the notification of the reasoned decision. The statement made on the website of the Competition Authority regarding the subject is as follows;
Since the BKM Express service offered by Bankalararası Kart Merkezi A.Ş. does not meet the conditions set forth in Article 5 of Law No. 4054, exemption cannot be granted to the said activity. Therefore, it has been decided that the exemption granted to Bankalararası Kart Merkezi A.Ş. by the decision of the Competition Board dated 23.09.2016 and numbered 16-31/525-236 shall be revoked within the framework of Article 13 of Law No. 4054, and that Bankalararası Kart Merkezi A.Ş. shall terminate offering the BKM Express service within 60 days from the notification date of the reasoning of this decision.
Although the details regarding this decision currently remain uncertain, what the fate of BKM Express will be has already started to become a matter of curiosity. Let us also note that Bankalararası Kart Merkezi has not made a statement regarding the subject for now.
